Pattern

Exploratory layouts

Final Pattern
It is my first time to create geometric pattern using Photoshop. I tried to combine different geometric pattern blocks together and attempt to show visual texture and value in my work. The geometric pattern which I made is really colorful and bright. In addition, the high contrast colors create special visual impact and display two-dimensional design.

Sketch-Chair

I chose my favorate chair in my home and tried to sketch from different views. Moreover, I carefully observed the proportion of the chair and considered about ergonomics. I also did some researches in order to understand the material and history of the chair.

Sketch-Fruit

I used cross-hatch techniques to sketch mutiple fruit on the table. I tried to use this technique to show the shadow and shape of fruit. In addition, I also wanted to present the relationship between background and objects.

Sketch-Keys

It is my first time to draw multiple keys. I want to display the shadow and value, and I try to use different line directions to present the object.  I think that it is a good way to practice my sketching skills.

Textile pattern

Thumbnail Sketches

10"X10" Textile Pattern

30"X30" 9 Block Final Pattern

The bright colors of Hakka fabric were created by traditional Taiwanese, and the colors present some unique design elements that are used to construct textile pattern. The high color contrast of Hakka fabric enhances visual effect of the pattern, and it also influences the layout of design elements. The background color which is derived from traditional Hakka clothing represents the traditional Hakka spirit and immigrant society in Taiwan. The cyan background and elements with warm tones create strongly contrast and interesting conflict. The varied peony flower shapes which were placed around the textile pattern represent health and fortune. In addition, they show the magnificent color and principle of repletion. The dragon which dominates the pattern shows that the Taiwanese culture was deeply influenced by Chinese culture. The Tung flowers and plum blossoms which were placed behind the dragon represent multi-culture in this Island and emphasize the spirit of Taiwan.
